The Search for Connection My work explores the human need for bonding; to Nature, to others, to our surroundings, and to one’s inner soul. In the process of painting, I experience a connection akin to that which may be attained through meditation, or prayer, and a marked disconnection from day to day corporeal life. Nature is binding. Nature is my church. Nature may inspire calm, wonder, tumult, and fear among many other emotions. It is the greatest force of all. Although my paintings may begin with an image derived from my surroundings, they also take on a deeper meaning as they develop through many layers of construction and destruction to arrive at a complexity of surface and color.
